Hvar hosting this year Croatian Island Product mark of quality award

The town of Hvar will be hosting this year formal Croatian Island Product mark of quality award which has been awarded to island products of exceptional quality since 2007. The event will be held on Thursday November 21st at the Arsenal starting at 7 pm. According to information received from the Direction of regional development of the Ministry of Regional Development and European Union Funds the next morning there should be a meeting of winners of the CIP mark of quality award and officials from the Ministry of Regional Development and European Union Funds. After the meeting participants would visit some of the CIP award winners from the island of Hvar. Detailed program has not yet been determined but we found out that winners will be arriving on Hvar in their own capacity, with accommodation being offered at affordable prices.

The CIP mark of quality has been awarded to traditional innovative island products created as a result of island tradition, research work, innovation and invention with a measurable level of quality, originating from distinct island localities, made in limited editions.

As it says on the Ministry of Regional Development website ‘’this project has multiple effects, among other benefits some of the most important ones are economic and demographic – island manufacturers through self-employment create products of better than average quality providing themselves and their families with means of survival on Croatian islands. Consumers, on the other side are introduced to new products which excellence is easy to check right away.’’

255 products of 101 production lines of island manufacturers bear the ‘’Croatian Island Product’’ mark of quality so far. They include 8 eco manufactures and 11 manufacturers with a mark of the geographic locality. 20 islands can brag with Croatian Island Product (Brač, Hvar, Vis, Korčula, Pag, Krk, Lastovo, Dugi Otok, Rab, Cres, Lošinj, Prvić, Ugljan, Pelješac, Mljet, Šolta, Žirje, Pašman, Iž, Murter). These are food items (wine, schnapps, liqueurs, olive oils, cheeses, sweets, fish, salad marinades, jams and honey), cosmetic products, clothes and souvenirs.

Since during the award ceremony there will also be an exhibition of products who bear the CIP mark, this year winners should deliver their products by November 28th at the latest to Grad Hvar, Mayor’s office, Milana Kukurina 2, 21450 Hvar, with a notice saying ‘’Croatian Island Product’’ or they can bring them personally.

So here we have Hvar hosting another event and soon we’ll know which of the island manufactures will deservingly bear the ‘’Croatian Island Product’’ mark of quality for 2012.
